Andrée Putman was the daughter of a pianist and is a kind of genius. Her childhood was almost overloaded with art. At the age of 19 she was already a brilliant classical musician. She began to work in the 1960s as a journalist for the design magazine 'L'OEIL' (eye) and to write the column decoration in ELLE and had a career as a marketing consultant in the fashion world. She started a career in design only in her fifties when she she founded her own furnishings and interior design business, ECART, in 1978. She designed shops for Yves St. Laurent, Karl Lagerfeld, Thierry Mugler, Azzedine Alaia, Cartier, Ebel and many others around the world. In 1984 she designed the first boutique hotel in the world, Morgans Hotel. In 1997 she started a design studio in her own name, Agence Andrée Putman.
