Jens Quistgaard

Denmark

Designer:Jens Quistgaard

Jens H. Quistgaard is best known for his skills in three dimensional design, innovative ways, and traditional craftsmanship. This distinction came to him honestly - with a sculptor and a painter as parents, and with Georg Jensen, one of Denmark's most lauded silversmiths, as a mentor and teacher. Early in his design career Quistgaard moved to the United States where he continued to work in a Danish inspired style. His production was funded at the time by the American entrepreneur Ted Nierenberg, and together in the early 1950's they founded the seminal American company working in the Danish Modern style: Dansk Designs. Quistgaard's wide ranging oeuvre primarily focuses on industrial and decorative arts, but over the course of his long career has also worked in graphic and architectural design
