PERIOD: Art Nouveau
A spectacular pair of antique pillow shams loomed of a pure white and silky "fil de lin" linen, each with an elegantly embroidered monogram, "PB," in one corner. These beautiful shams have a wide border hand embroidered with flowers in English cutwork, point de bourdon and point de tige, and a pretty scalloped edge which is hand embroidered as well. The monograms are exquisitely executed in an important relief of bourdon with each letter ornamented and underscored with sprigs of flowers. The shams close at the back with six mother-of-pearl buttons. This lovely pair likely dates from the turn of the 20th century and is in excellent condition with the exception of a very small and very well executed darn in one corner of one of the scalloped edges and which is practically invisible to the eye. Dimensions: exterior 29 x 27.5in., interior 22 x 20.5in.
