Clos de Vougeot

The Monks had good taste!

The vineyard of Clos de Vougeot already existed when the Cistercian monks first began making wine there in the early XII century. After the French revolution all the church properties were confiscated by the French state and sold to different owners. For quite a long time the reputation of Clos de Vougeot was to produce wines with a broad range in value.

The best Clos de Vougeot were the wines coming from the northwest sector of the domain where the soils are light on oolitic limestone.

Domaine Rebourseau

We recommand the Clos de Vougeot Grand Crus from: Chateau de la Tour (the only one that makes its wine inside Clos de Vougeot and our favorite), Domaine Philippe Charlopin-Parizot, Domaine Jean Grivot, Domaines Perrot-Minot, Domaine Francois Lamarche. You won't be disappointed if you are a pinot noir lover!

Clos de Vougeot is not only an excellent wine, it is a beautiful place to visit, especially if you are invited to a dinner at the " Confrrie des Chevaliers du Tastevin" an exclusive club of Burgundy wine enthusiasts of which I am a member. Not only will you enjoy an excellent dinner and taste several fine Burgundy wines but you will also have the privilege of participating in a spectacular ceremony known for its wit and its soul!
